Today I completed my first Fast Before the Feast, a 60 hour water fast from Sunday to Wednesday, which I wrote about in more detail here.
I wanted to break my fast in the most optimal way for my digestive system and body so I did some research on what I should put in my body first.
I came across this awesome article which recommended an awesome drink to have to break a fast, regardless of if you’re fasting for 16 hours during a standard intermittent fast, 36 hours during a monk fast, or 60 hours during a Himalayan Fast.
Here is what makes this a great fast-breaker:
You want to consume something that stimulates the digestive tract without releasing insulin.
Apple cider vinegar is perfect for this – it balances healthy pH levels, kills off bad bacteria in your gut, stabilizes blood sugar and improves overall health.
You want the citric acid from lemons to promote the creation of digestive enzymes in the gut before you eat.
Cinnamon is for better blood sugar stabilization

Without further ado, here is how to make:
Apple Cider Cinnamon Lemon Tea
- 2 tbsp of raw apple cider vinegar
- 1 half of lemon
- 1 pinch of cinnamon
- 1 pinch of sea salt
- 1 cup of hot water (or cold water if you want iced tea)
- Fill up a cup of hot water (can be boiling water if you want a hot tea like beverage) or cold water (for iced tea)
- Add in the squeezed lemon, cinnamon, salt and apple cider vinegar
- Stir and enjoy!
- Wait for about 15-30 minutes to let your gut absorb the nutrients and then you can have your first “meal” = a small and low glycemic meal: (ie 2-3 eggs, half an avocado, some nuts and spinach OR 1 can of sardines with some salad and olive oil)
